Everything is coming together for our second LiFE Church Preview Service this Sunday. We’ll have the Spitzer Center, the music, the message, the coffee and the LiFE Church team all fresh and ready.
Hope you’ll grab some friends and be there too! Everyone there will get a feel for what LiFE Church is all about!
When: Sunday, May 23, 2010 Time: 10:30am – 11:45am Where: Lorain County Community College-Spitzer Center Grand Room
On Sunday 70 adults and 12 children came to Lorain County Community College’s Spitzer Conference Center to celebrate Easter. This was the first preview worship service for LiFE Church. The next preview service is Sunday May 23rd at 10:30 am.
Worship leader Jay Guerrero and the band came through with high energy worship and a great cover of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” as the day’s theme song. Church planter Jeff Ahlgrim spoke about the walls we face as we go through life. He talked about facing the job wall, the relationship wall and the wall of our mortality. Jeff told how Jesus’ resurrection makes him our one sure way through the mortality wall to eternal life and also makes Jesus the source of a new perspective on our life’s challenges.
Before the service was over everyone was challenged to ask God for help with their walls. First names and short descriptions of those walls were written on cards. The LiFE Church Vision Team promised to pray for each person who turned in a card. The team will pray for people from now until the next service. People who experience any breakthroughs with their walls were encouraged to share their story through the “contact us” part of the website.
Half of all contributions collected on Easter Sunday were designated for Second Harvest Food Bank. Second Harvest will receive $425 to help fight hunger in Lorain County.
Everyone interested in learning more about LiFE Church was invited to an informal “Coffee Talk”. Jeff Ahlgrim will be at Arabica Coffee House on Abbe Road on Sunday April 11 or Sunday the 18th from 10-11am to talk about LiFE Church: who we are, what’s important, and what’s next. Anyone interested in being at one of the Coffee Talks can call Jeff @ 440.610.9770 or email: jeffa@lifechurchlc.org.
Many churches do good things for God, but they keep it a secret. It’s not that they don’t want anyone to know what they’re doing, it’s just that they don’t do much about telling people.
When the Apostle Paul went into a city for the first time, he found out where people hung out and went there. Since he wanted to talk to people about Jesus, he went where the people were. That’s a model we want to use as the backbone of our communication efforts at LIFE Church.
Many people today hang out virtually at social networking sites like Myspace or Facebook. We want to be in those spaces too. You can find LIFE Church on our website (you knew that!), as a group on Facebook and on Twitter.
Whatever it takes, we want the people of Lorain County to know what we’re up to. If you have friends that would enjoy creating a new church from scratch, please, don’t keep LIFE Church a secret, tell them how to find us.
Attraction should be a means to an end for churches. Instead of pouring most of our time, energy and money into attracting people to weekend services, we’d rather invest in serving needs in our community. While we’re out there serving, we’ll invite people to join us. Can you get into that?
This is not an either/or. When LIFE Church comes to life, we will have weekend services. We’ll be talking about God, singing and hanging out together. But I want people to show up to SERVE IN THE COMMUNITY rather than just having them SHOW UP for WEEKEND SERVICES.
Jesus said the true nature of a tree is seen in its fruit. I’d love to see fruit on the LIFE Church “tree” with ID stickers saying, “Agent of Jesus in the Community” not just, “Attends LIFE Church.”
